*I've listed these "programs" not to specifically detail scheduled workouts, but rather give several ideas to focus on and assist in setting goals. I also want to give you an idea of what I emphasize during each individual workout and throughout a program to assure my clients and I are on the same page, and that progress is recorded and reached in an objective and efficient manner. Using the programs outlined below, each program is then individualized after an assessment is completed. If you see something similar to what you are looking for, please note this by Contacting Me or when you fill out your pre-training Questionnaire.

Youth Weight Management

Triangle of Communication

Establishing a "triangle of communication" between the parents, child, and me is first on the priority list. Due to the internal relationship parents have with their children, it can be difficult for them to articulate concern and advice about nutrition, exercise, "a healthy lifestyle", or weight management. Parents have enough to do asking about homework, friends, video games, and the internet, therefore, if weight management concerns arise, children may draw the line. This is where I can intercede, by maintaining an "external relationship", as an example, a "healthy" role model, and someone they can talk to and work out with. I establish this triangle of communicating (through email and phone) with the parents, notifying them of any concerns, as well as discussing habits at home, grocery shopping, and signs of progress (and regression).

Body Awareness

As with all of us, knowing our body can lead to empowerment to succeed in many arenas. I initially teach body awareness, "how does it feel to stretch a muscle?", "how does your stomach feel when you eat something extra fatty or oily?", "how does it feel now that you've been walking daily for 3 weeks? How are your energy levels?" I emphasize a conscious correlation between being active, energetic, confident, and more knowledgeable about oneself, without being overly obsessive about everything we eat, how we look, etc. I strive to teach a comfort with one's body, and an understanding of why food, exercise, sleep and stress effect our body the way that it does.

Eating Disorders

If ever I feel the situation calls for further or more serious intervention than I can provide, I work with a highly recommended Registered Dietitian specializing in eating disorders, in which case, our triangle of communication may simply become a quadrangle. The parents are immediately notified, and we'll proceed appropriately.

Post-Rehabilitation Program

Physical therapists will get you back on your feet, often putting out the fire (injury) that has slowed you down or caused you to miss time from work. Many people want to continue working out so they may prevent any future problems, and/or simply take their present health or shape to the next level. This is where I can help. If you have recently been prescribed or finished physical therapy and want to continue with a regular exercise program, but are uncertain of what you should or shouldn't be doing due to your recent injury, contact me and I'll let you know if I can help.

Prevent that low back pain from coming back, work on your flexibility and balance to prevent another knee or ankle sprain, and minimize your neck and upper back issues. Contact me now, I'd love to consult with you. And if I feel you need more specific, advanced assistance, I will recommend another personal trainer who is also a physical therapist and specializes only in cases like this.
